Therefore encourage one another and build each other up… I Thessalonians 5:11
We are “Friends in Christ” — a loosely organized social and fellowship group that is open to all men at First Presbyterian. Our goal is to build an inclusive caring community of men that strengthens the church and witnesses to the promise of God’s Kingdom. All of our activities are mindful of the different ages and varied interests of the men of the church.
Tuesday Morning Breakfasts
Each Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. we meet for breakfast at Leo’s restaurant (formerly Hercules), a “Coney-Island” located only one mile from the church at 12 Mile and Farmington Roads. We invite any man who is a member or attendee of First Presbyterian to join us. In fact, when you join us for the first time, we’ll buy you breakfast.
Meetings and Programs
In addition to the weekly Tuesday morning breakfasts, once a month we have an 8:00 a.m. Saturday breakfast meeting at the church in Knox Fellowship Hall. The varied program topics are always creative and interesting. (Past highlights include an “Organ Tour”, 1940 Oldsmobile, “History of the American Postcard” DVD and a Presbytery wide round table on Men’s Ministry.)
Outings
We also sponsor “field trips.” Join us for special events such as a Plymouth Whalers Game, Super Bowl Party, Men’s Retreat, Model Show, Bowling, Lake Erie Walleye Fishing (June), Canoeing the South Branch of the AuSable (May) or Samaritan Golf Outing.
Mission Emphasis
We focus on building each other up and building the church up. We take on church service projects that benefit the congregation and support other church programs. Our primary mission focus is support of senior church members. We complement other church ministries of comfort and visitation in a program that is alternately referred to as “In Reach” and “Tool Belt Ministry.” This “tool belt ministry” recently installed a handicap ramp and completed minor home repairs for three members of the church. Please let us know if you know of a need for our assistance
